GeoCapital is a web-based geography game designed to help players learn, review and memorize the capitals of countries around the world through quick, repeatable challenges.

The game

GeoCapital presents countries and capitals one after another. The goal is simple: type the right answer as quickly and accurately as possible.

  • Guess the capital from the country.
  • Guess the country from the capital.
  • Skip difficult items and return to them later.

Modes

Challenge mode is timed and feeds the leaderboards. Training mode is untimed and made for practice, discovery and repetition.

  • Challenge: 20, 15, 10, 5 or 2 minutes.
  • Training: no time limit.
  • Challenge order is always random.

Accounts

Accounts make the game more personal. Players can sign in, track results, appear on leaderboards and build a history of their performances.

  • Email/password and Google sign-in.
  • Email verification for classic accounts.
  • Public leaderboards for challenge scores.

Why GeoCapital exists

Memorizing capitals is easier when practice is active, immediate and repeatable. GeoCapital is built around that idea: no long menus, no slow transitions, just quick prompts, instant answer recognition and clear progress feedback.

The project is also designed to grow over time. Future improvements may include richer statistics, personalized training, achievements, expanded filters and more ways to compare progress with other players.

FAQ

Do I need an account to play?
No. You can play without an account. An account is needed for persistent stats, public rankings and personalized features.
Which scores count for leaderboards?
Only Challenge mode scores count. Training mode is for practice and does not affect public rankings.
Why are accents and capitalization ignored?
The goal is knowledge, not keyboard perfection. GeoCapital normalizes answers so small differences in accents, capitalization, hyphens and spacing do not block correct answers.
Can I play in different languages?
The interface and country/capital database are designed for multiple languages. Your language choice is saved in your browser.
Why is Challenge order random?
Random order keeps leaderboard attempts fairer and avoids predictable alphabetical memorization patterns.
